It's Wrong to Kill Meat-Eaters →
Here’s a link to a brilliant letter on the irony of “mindful killing” that I wish I could say I’d written myself. I’m a vegetarian, have been for 13 years now. But I’m not militant. I’m happily married to a carnivorous man. My philosophy? Choice. I choose to be a vegetarian and I respect that not everyone shares my views. So is life.
This particular...

Too Much Plastic →
I already try desperately to cut down on my plastic use. I recycle, re-use, and all of that. But is it enough? Articles like this make me feel so hopeless. We are too many and only a very few actually care or have the luxury of caring.
From the article: “…the horrifying aftermath of albatross chicks being fed plastic debris from the gyre by their parents, who mistook the colorful...

There’s not much that vinegar and/or baking soda can’t fix.
Doppelganger week is over and I’m back to being just Aleah. But I’ll always have a teensy weensy place in my heart for my likeness to Mia Thermopolis.

Illuminating article from the BBC on why low income Americans continue to vehemently argue against the very programs designed to help them. My favorite line? “It’s like a French Revolution in reverse in which the workers come pouring down the street screaming more power to the aristocracy.”

Toyota recalls 'up to 1.8m' cars →
I wonder if this would be the ideal time to get a deal on a new (to me) Toyota? Won’t hurt to ask.

In the 1960s Timothy Leary prophesied a future in which LSD reigned over humanity. The American psychologist, writer and futurist dedicated much of his life researching and campaigning the psychedelic drug in the belief that its spiritual, therapeutic and emotional benefits surpassed those of any other substance known on earth. Serious case of the grumps today. Wish I had the luxury of a time out and a nap, that would do wonders.

We have thus far exhausted trillions of winters and summers,
There are trillions ahead, and trillions ahead of them.
Births have brought us richness and variety,
And other births will bring us richness and variety.
I do not call one greater and one smaller,
That which fills its period and place is equal to any.

Finished Westerfeld's "Uglies."
3 out of 5 stars. It’s a fun teen sci-fi book, same concept as Lowry’s ‘The Giver.’ Better than Twilight.
This second glass of wine
is so much better than the first.

Guess I'll go try to finish my book.
I’m reading Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld. I whizzed right through until the end… now the teenage angst is starting to chafe. That’s what I get for picking up a young adult title. But I think I can stick it out, might redeem itself at the end. And the sci-fi stuff is fun.

My friend, Michelle, had the opportunity to interview Doug Pitt today (Brad Pitt’s brother). Here she is doing a wonderful job while rockin’ some amazing boots.

I run a book discussion group at my library.
Today, toward the end of the discussion, two of the ladies started demonstrating Tai Chi. What a perfect ending! We should do that every time.
